One of my greatest pleasures is creating special commissions. I welcome the opportunity to create works of art which are unique to you. If you are interested in purchasing, commissioning or licensing my work, please contact me directly via the Contact Artist page.
For information about portrait commissions, please see below.
Thank you for your interest in my art.
PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS
I accept a limited number of commissions per year. These can be either human or pet portraits. All my portraits are traditionally hand created using the world's highest quality artist materials. Many hours go into each portrait, providing you with a unique and treasured one-of-a-kind original work of art for many years to come.
Please contact me via my “contact artist” page to discuss your subject, requirements or ideas and I will be happy to get back to you with an individual quote.
Because my work is detailed, I work from photographic references. These can be sourced from your own photographs. Sizing starts at 10x10" for a single person or single pet portrait.
I require is a high resolution photo (or selection of photos) and a 50% deposit to secure your slot in my schedule. I would need to see and approve your photo material first to ensure I can work from them.
Please see my helpful tips below on taking great photos for your portrait.
Because there are many variables with each portrait, please contact me (via the “contact artist” page for an accurate quote.
All art is thoroughly and rigorously packaged and sandwiched between many layers of different materials, packaged inside a cardboard box and wrapped to ensure waterproofing.. All packages are shipped with tracking information.
Photography Tips
My goal when producing your portrait is to create art that you can treasure for many years to come. One of the most important criteria to ensure this is i have a good reference photo (or photos) to work from.
I cannot emphasize enough that 'the better the photo, the better the finished portrait'. I am here to help you get the best photograph possible and give you as much advice as you need.
Quality
The first thing I look for in a photograph is the quality. As a pencil artist I am attracted to detail so the clearer the detail in a photo, the better your portrait will be. This is especially important for features such as their eyes and nose and mouth. It is very important that the photo be sharp and in focus. I am unable to work from blurry photos.
Lighting
Natural light is best. The best time is on a bright overcast day but not in direct sunlight as this can cast some unflattering shadows.
Turn Flash Off
Avoid using flash if possible. Flash causes a number of problems and looks very unflattering. It can masks detail and cause unnatural shadows and colors. It can also result in the red-eye or eye glowing effect.
Levels
Take the photo at eye level. Photos looking down or up on your subject can be unnatural to the eye.
Posthumous Portraits
If you are interested in commissioning a portrait of a pet or person that has passed away, you may have limited photos available. Don’t worry. Provide me with as many photos as you can and we discuss them together. I will need to review photos of those that have passed before I can accept your commission.
Multiple Subjects
A common misconception for multiple subjects is that you need to have them in the same photo. While this is preferred, I can often lay them out nicely together in your portrait if photos of them together are not available. (Additional cost MAY apply.)
Guidance
I am happy to help and give you the very best advice I can. I will always review and discuss your photos with you when ordering a commission. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need help, or to ask questions. You may send me as many photos as you wish with no obligation. Consultations are always free.
